Adelaide Bird & Exotics Vet Centre

Boarding

Adelaide Bird and Exotics Vet Centre offers boarding to the following pets: birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, ferrets, frogs, lizards and non-venomous snakes. Rather than being housed with their natural predators (dogs and cats) in a standard boarding kennel/cattery, your pet will be boarded in air-conditioned environment with others of its own kind. The ferrets are boarded in a separate room to the others! All pets are weighed regularly through their stay and are offered fresh fruit and vegetables daily where appropriate. If your pet is on medication, this can be also given while they board with us. We can provide the food, or you can bring your pet’s food for its stay.

It is important that your pet does not become unwell while boarding with us. To address the risk of possible transmission of disease, all pets that are boarded should be:

  • Current with vaccinations. For rabbits, this is a Calicivirus vaccination within the last 6 months. For ferrets, a vaccination against Distemper within the last 12 months. Please bring documentation of vaccination. We can vaccinate your pet while it stays with us.
  • Treated for parasites as fleas and mites can spread disease.
  • Health screening. If it is the first time your pet parrot has boarded with us, it must be tested for Chlamydia (Psittacosis) within the last two years with either a negative result or have been treated by your vet.

Vaccination and treatment for parasites is offered upon arrival at boarding. If you have any questions about boarding your unusual pet, please do not hesitate to contact us.
